Robert Dziekanski tasered to death by the RCMP at Vancouver Airport Posted by Marek Vermin on November 17th, 2007

This is really sad. The poor guy was just confused and needed to talk to someone. I’d feel like throwing shit too if I was stuck in a secure part of the airport for hours with no clue what to do and no one who could understand me. I wish that they would have been able to find someone who spoke ANY Slavic language, because at least there could have been SOME communication.

Chavez helps screw up socialism for everyone… Posted by Marek Vermin on November 8th, 2007

The end of Chavez is nascent. He had such a promising start. I remember him in the UN, holding up a Chomsky book and denouncing US imperialism. I also remember his cheap gas to transit companies for America’s poor. He has progressive property laws too, but then again, so did the Mexican government at one point before the revolution became nothing more than just a catch phrase.

Read Bruce Springsteen’s interview in this month’s Rolling Stone. It is brilliant and yet another reason why he rocks.

Hypocrites / Facebook Posted by Marek Vermin on October 7th, 2007

OK, so we’re hypocrites. Yeah, Facebook is potentially a data-collection tool for the CIA/Homeland Security, etc, but how can you deny that it’s the new myspace? Besides, myspace/Fox/Murdoch/whatever isn’t much better anyway. So now that we’re all sucking the corporate tailpipe together, why don’t you add us if you’ve got a facebook account? Join the Comrades of the Martyr Index on Facebook.

Just remember to lie a lot on Facebook, so that there’s tons of useless garbage in the way if the FBI wants to use it for something like data mining and profiling.

Love Mark

To celebrate our return to the streets we thought we’d hit y’all up with some photos of us getting situated in our new beat. Click here to check ‘em out.

Online music… long live music piracy! Posted by Marek Vermin on June 27th, 2007

Hey everyone! We just wanted to let everyone know that we just put up the Snocap online music store on our site. That means that all of our released tracks can be bought and downloaded right off our site. That also means you can get the tunes without all of the wasteful CD packaging and you’re going through independent distributors (CD Baby and Snocap) who give the majority of the money you pay back to the artists and indie labels themselves. When you pay $22 for an independent CD at a record store the artists can see as little as $1 from that. However, when you buy an MP3 (or any digital format), you pay way less for a whole album (often $10 or $1 a song) and the artist and indie label can see as much as 75% of that! Not only that, you can then buy $1 burnable CDs and make copies for your friends by converting them to aiffs or wavs in your iTunes player (or whatever you use). Any music with protection is automatically de-authorized by doing this, so this kills the copyright protection in the MP3.

Got a facebook account? Posted by Marek Vermin on April 7th, 2007

Then watch this. We are basically helping to build the world’s largest surveillance database through all of this myspace, facebook, etc. junk. We shouldn’t have to hide, especially since these are powerful tools for discourse and we can use them for that, just be mindful of what data you post and what you are willing to stand up for if (or when) a major shitshow happens.
